Re: Mutiny at the Lane
I do not want Spurs to fall apart because I enjoy the rivalry. When we beat them at home last season for example it was hugely enjoyable, more so than if we'd beaten some midlands or northern nondescript outfit. I also like the fact that we have five London rivals and Brighton who are virtually local to us.

'they want to finance it by spending on players wages at a Southampton level'

Interesting observation - here are the facts taken from a David Conn article, widely respected football economics/political correspondent, consolidated from year end accounts, Southampton/Tottenham/WHam (for comparison)

One caveat, these numbers relate to the last filing, so aren't for last season although any debt repayment detail for this year is accurate - OK

Southampton
Wages £85m; 69% of £124m T/Over
£63m Total debt
£6m Interest
£445k highest paid director; their Chairman

Spurs
Wages £100m; 48% of £210m T/Over
£125m Bank debt
£4m Interest
£2.843m highest paid director; Levy

Notes to debt - £100m is from a loan draw down against a £200m facility from a bank consortium toward the new ground. It must be repaid or refinanced by Dec 2017. The other £25m is to Investec toward their training ground, repayable by 2022. All debt secured against future revenues.

WH
Wages £85m; 60% of £142m T/Over
£67m Nett debt
£6m Interest
£907k highest paid director; thought to be Brady

Notes to debt - Nett debt comprises £49.2m to G/S - The club also cleared £31m of debt in the trading year to other parties

Notes to add - WH's account relate to the last seaon at UP, enhanced revenues from the move will improve the numbers

Allin, goes someway to explaining the Spurs dilema and as I alluded earlier in this thread, reading between the lines from actual press statements from the club over the last six months Spurs have something of a problem - great accounts, excepting the stadium cost but unsustainable and a mighty wave of cost heading their way

There are few things that would give me greater pleasure than seeing these cunts fall apart.

Doubt it will happen though

Re: Mutiny at the Lane
Tottenham are and always will be a club in crisis. For a team as good as them to consistently win fuck all, is about as funny as anything gets in football.

And the new ground looks horrific too, which makes it even better.

Lard
'I wonder if anyone will come in for Rose or see him as an avaricious little shit, witless and disruptive'

So what differentiates him from other footballers there? He is on the flip side, a magnificent player, apparently good club man and knicknamed 'Son of Poch' given his manager's liking of him.

There will be a queue wanting him mate

Infidel 11:08 Fri Aug 11
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
Agreed Lard.

You have to wonder how long Kane and Alli will accept wages that are half what they would be paid anywhere else.

Kylie Walker now on £130k a week at City....that won't have gone unnoticed.

Re: Mutiny at the Lane
The man that owns them Joe lewis, has very deep pockets, but he's a self made multi billionaire, not a sovereign state mineral wealth prince

He knows value and strives to run Spuds as a business not a toy, he is the only thing I respect about Tottenham Hotspur, including their deluded fan base

He is realistic enough to know, even with his huge wealth C£5B, the same league as Abramovic, John Henry (Liverpool) and the Glazers at Man U, No one can compete with the wealth of Manchester City's Emirati owners whose sovereign wealth fund is virtually bottomless.

They paid attention to Arsenal's plight when building at Ashburton Grove. That was 11 years ago and Arsenal have won virtually bugger all since (3 x FA Cup.) their last Premiership title was the season they broke ground at Ashburton Grove and thats when the money stopped for the playing side.

If I were Levy I would not concern myself that Danny Rose wanted to go elsewhere for money, to give in now would give all the wrong signals.

It shows above all, that Spurs fans are truly deluded, needless to say so are some of their players... I wonder if anyone will come in for Rose or see him as an avaricious little shit, witless and disruptive.

Not surprising, Rose will be sold and now the other players can make quiet noises to Levy that they to will speak to the press, he has 2 choices, keep selling his best players or ease their pay structure a bit to prevent the players speaking out.

Sven Roeder 10:39 Fri Aug 11
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
The only clubs where that sort of wage structure works are those that bring through young players and find promising players from abroad. Like Southampton
The final piece of that strategy though is when players get to the Kane and Alli level you sell them for big fees and keep the machine working.
Spurs have big team pockets and want to challenge for trophies. But they want to finance it by spending on players wages at a Southampton level & treat the players they have brought through like youngsters still.
You can't have your cake and eat it.

Russ of the BML 10:32 Fri Aug 11
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
Been saying this for years. The Spurs project is utterly unsustainable.

I've always said who the fuck can they bring in to improve their first team?

Any number 9 who Spurs approach will go "Is Kane leaving then?" and if the answer is no then they will go "See you later then". And the same with a number 10. "Is Ali leaving then?" If again no then it's "No thanks".

And that's the problem. They are so rigid and rely so heavily on Kane and Ali they just can't evolve. Son has done ok when Kane has been out but he isn't going to win them trophies.

And as for the money thing; it was always going to happen. You can't knock Levy for doing it the way he has. In fact, whilst most of football has gone completely mental over wages and transfers Spurs have stayed pretty steadfast in their approach of maintaining things at a more reasonable level.

But now Rose has opened his gob the house of cards will tumble. He's seen his mate Walker trot off and earn a kings ransom and he fancies the same. Problem is his comments will make Ali and Kane look up and you just know they are thinking absolutely the same. Both of those boys could play in any team in the world and thet are earning, in football terms, squad player money.

The house of cards is wobbling. Oh how much joy it will bring to see it fall.

Sven Roeder 8:31 Fri Aug 11
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
It's fairly simple
For a Champions league team their first team squad are being paid about half what they would get elsewhere
Am sure Daniel Levy will be DELIGHTED to rectify that.
Daniel?
*runs to get smelling salts*

Amusing to hear that when Rose turned up for training after the article appeared he got a 'heroes welcome' from the dressing room.

Sydney_Iron 8:19 Fri Aug 11
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
I wouldn’t be writing Spurs off just yet, unfortunately Levy is a pretty savvy businessman and no mug, if he needs to change his wage structure to keep players im sure he will, if they need funds to buy players he will find them, and they also have a very good manager and a decent squad.

As much as I don’t like them, they did play some good football last season and anyone who thinks they are about to implode is deluded.

More than happy to be proved wrong!

Just had a browse and a good laugh, particularly at the poster who noted that Rose is 'going to regret this for the rest of his career and his life'.

Hilarious.

Re: Mutiny at the Lane
Would be a simple thing for a club to offer £50m for Kane.
And for him to ask for an appropriate wage when Levy turns that down .... how can a player not for sale at £50m be on £60k?
* rattles tin for poor downtrodden Kane*

neilalex 9:59 Thu Aug 10
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
There's absolutely no chance that they will be able to sustain this. A wage cap in one of the most competitive and inflationary labour markets on the planet? Zero possibility of it lasting. The hope will be that Levy believes his own bullshit and digs his heels in until it's too late.

Herby 9:37 Thu Aug 10
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
Levy wouldn't be saying he's worth 100 million if he had a pay a wage based on value though would he

wansteadman 9:33 Thu Aug 10
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
Never understand why players don't ask for their wages as a percentage of their value so when Kane was valued at £20m if he was on 10% of his salary he would be underpaid but once levy started saying they wouldn't accept less than £100m his money would rocket

Sven Roeder 9:14 Thu Aug 10
Re: Mutiny at the Lane
If you are going to compete with the big boys you have to pay the wages.
Kane and Alli are being fools to themselves. They are established internationals and you'd probably say in the top dozen or so players in the league.
And they are being paid like squad players at some mid table clubs.
If I was Wenger , Mourinho, Conte etc I'd make offers for both at double the wages and make Levy sweat.
